Wabara to Tinubu: Call Wike to order now before Rivers burns

A former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Adolphus Wabara, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the escalating political tensions in Rivers State. Wabara expressed concern over the actions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, warning that they could plunge the state into unnecessary crisis. He urged Tinubu to counsel Wike to prioritize peace and respect constitutional processes.
The recent call by the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has heightened tensions. Wabara cautioned against any attempts to forcefully remove a democratically-elected leader, emphasizing the potential destabilizing effects on Nigeria, given Rivers State’s economic significance.
Moreover, Wabara urged members of the Rivers House of Assembly to resist becoming agents of destabilization, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles. He stressed that history would judge harshly those involved in such actions.

“I want to appeal to Mr. President to call his appointee, Nyesom Wike to order so that his actions in Rivers do not confirm the suspicion that APC has an agenda to turn Nigeria into one party state. Wike should allow peace to reign in Rivers State.
“Mr President should appreciate the importance of Rivers as a major revenue base of the country, and should the trouble they are stoking erupt, Nigeria will definitely not escape the aftermath.”
The PDP BoT Chairman, further advised members of the Rivers House of Assembly not to yield themselves as agents of distabilization of the state “because history will not be kind to them.”
Meanwhile, in Abia State, the PDP is grappling with a mass exodus of members. Former PDP Chairman in the state, Senator Emma Nwaka, attributed the party’s decline to weak leadership that succumbed to external pressures. He criticized successors for relinquishing party authority to government officials, leading to the current crisis.
Nwaka highlighted his efforts to revive the party during his tenure, contrasting it with the subsequent decline in party autonomy and influence. He lamented the politicization of party structures and divisions within the party, which he believes contributed to its downfall.
In response to the situation in Abia, Nwaka announced his departure from the PDP, citing the party’s diminished stature and his intention to join the Siddon Look Party (SLP). He expressed optimism about rebuilding a formidable political entity.
