FG arraigns 441 #EndBadGovernance protesters in Kano

No less than 441 protesters arrested during the 10-day nationwide hunger protest with hashtag #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria have been arraigned in three Magistrate Courts, in Kano State.

It was reported on August 7, during the protest that Amnesty International, a global human rights organisation, announced over 1,000 Nigerians, who participated in the protest against worsening hunger and misgovernance, were currently being held in prison custody across the country.

The organisation criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for responding to the protests with a crackdown, rather than addressing the economic issues that are exacerbating hunger and harming families.
According to Amnesty International then, at least 632 protesters were held in Kano State, while over 109 are being detained in Sokoto prison custody.

However, it was obtained, on Friday, that some details of protesters arrested and arraigned in various courts in Kano State in connection with the protest which was meant to highlight the challenges of misgovernance under President Bola Tinubu administration since 14 months he took over the reign of power in Nigeria.
According to the details obtained by SaharaReporters, 172 protesters were arraigned before a Senior Magistrate Court No. 54 Nomansland, Kano, which was presided over by His Worship Ibrahim Abubakar Mansur.
Another 149 protesters were arraigned before a Senior Magistrate Court No. 52 Koki, Kano, presided over by His Worship Muttaka Abba Dandago.

While 120 others were arraigned before Senior Magistrate Court No. 33 Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, which was presided over by His Worship Hadiza Rabi’u Bello.

Currently, they are remanded in various Correctional Custodial Centres in the state.
