Falana responds to Police, requests details of allegations against NLC President, Joe Ajaero

Human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Femi Falana SAN, has formally responded to the Nigeria Police regarding the invitation extended to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero.

The Police had summoned Ajaero to appear at the force headquarters on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, over allegations including criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, through DCP Mohammed Ahmed Sanusi, Chief Falana explained that Ajaero had prior commitments for August 20, which had been scheduled before the police’s invitation was received. The letter, signed by Samuel Ogala from Falana and Falana Chambers, conveyed Ajaero’s willingness to attend the police interview on August 29, 2024.

The letter titled “Re: Letter of Invitation” further requested that the police provide detailed information regarding the allegations against Ajaero. Citing Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered), the letter emphasized Ajaero’s right to be informed about the nature of the accusations.

The letter concluded with an expression of readiness to cooperate with the police and awaited their response.
