Dino Melaye names ‘destroyers’ of PDP

2 min read

A former senator, that represented Kogi West in the National Assembly, Sen. Dino Melaye, has named those he called ‘destroyers’ of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Sen. Melaye, those destroying the major opposition Party in Nigeria were acting National Chairman of the Party, Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature.

Recall that Damagum became the acting chairman of the PDP on 28 March, 2023, following a court order restraining Dr. Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the national chairman of the Party.
Dr. Ayu, a former Senate President, had earlier been suspended by his ward in Benue State.

In a post via his X handle, on Saturday, Sen. Melaye alleged that Damagum and the two other national leaders had irredeemably destroyed PDP.

He added that the opposition party had been commercialised and privatised.

In the words of Sen. Melaye, “End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time,” he said.

The Media had, on May 8, reported that a Federal High Court, in Abuja restrained the People’s Democratic Party from removing Amb. Umar Illiya Damagum as the Party’s national chairman.

The order was given by the court after hearing an ex-parte motion filed by Umar El-Gash Maina and Zanna Mustapha Gaddama.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Executive Committee (NEC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were listed as the respondents in the motion.
