Former President Olusegun Obasanjo made a humorous remark about his height during the unveiling of Raila Odinga as the chairperson candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC).
The event took place on Tuesday in Nairobi, Kenya.
As Kenyan President William Ruto invited Obasanjo to the podium to speak, a protocol officer quickly placed a space board at the podium to help Obasanjo reach the microphone.
Upon arriving at the podium, Obasanjo removed the board and quipped, “I am not as short as you think I am,” prompting laughter from the audience.

Odinga, who served as Kenya’s prime minister from 2008 to 2013, is a candidate for the AUC senior leadership, with elections set for February 2025 during the African Union summit.
In his speech, Obasanjo emphasised that Odinga is a candidate not only for Kenya but for the entire East African region.
Obasanjo highlighted the importance of Odinga’s leadership at this critical time, noting the global challenges of conflicts and wars. “We need strong leadership at this crucial stage of Africa’s development,” Obasanjo said.
