Tinubu may scrap some Ministries amid major cabinet reshuffle

President Bola Tinubu is reportedly set to dissolve the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as part of a major cabinet reshuffle aimed at streamlining government operations.
Ejes Gist News also gathered that other ministries will be scrapped as well According to sources within the Presidency, the reshuffle will go beyond mere portfolio swaps. Several ministries may be split, merged, or scrapped to improve efficiency and eliminate redundancy.
One source noted, “He (Tinubu) was supposed to announce the changes last week, but he was out of the country. He wants to implement them while he is around. It’s not just about reshuffling his cabinet—some ministries will be restructured to enhance effectiveness.”

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, created in 2019, has faced scrutiny for alleged corruption and inefficiency. Its current minister, Dr. Betta Edu, was suspended in January over allegations of fund diversion.
The President is reportedly considering scrapping the ministry, believing its functions can be handled by other agencies.
President Tinubu’s reshuffle is expected before he departs for the United Nations General Assembly, with another source confirming, “It will happen soon. There’s a portfolio that will be split into two, and others will be merged or dissolved.”
Meanwhile, ministers are reportedly lobbying influential figures to secure their positions amid the impending changes.
“Some ministers are reaching out to their godfathers for support, but ultimately, the President will act in the nation’s best interest,” a third source revealed.
This reshuffle marks one of Tinubu’s most significant steps in reorganising his administration, aimed at increasing the efficiency of government ministries.
