Yemi Cardoso not asked to resign as CBN gov. – Presidency

1 min read

The Presidency has denied reports that President Bola Tinubu asked Yemi Cardoso to resign from his role as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, refuted the claims, labeling them as ‘false’.
Mr. Onanuga took to his official X handle, on Tuesday, to clarify the situation, stating, “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.”

Onanuga’s statement came in response to rumors alleging that Tinubu instructed Cardoso to step down before departing for China, despite interventions from influential Yoruba leaders advocating for him to remain in office.

Cardoso has recently faced criticism for the economic challenges facing Nigeria, particularly the volatility of the Naira. However, the presidency’s latest clarification puts to rest any speculation about his resignation.
