Proper medical screening, Ogun govt. to increase awareness, save citizens lives

The prevalence in increase of non-communicable diseases particularly hypertension and diabetic, contributes to 20% of annual deaths across the nation of which the risk is high in adults between the ages of 30-70 years.
This information was given by the Ogun state commissioner for health, Dr. Tomi Coker during a press conference to launch the campaign for the project tagged : “know your number, control your number.”
The event which was held at the conference centre of the Ministry of Health, Governor’s Office, Òkè-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital, had various pressmen in attendance with a question and answers session.
The commissioner noted that the project is part of the national health promotion and awareness campaign spearheaded by the Nigerian health Commissioner’s forum and fully supported by the the Nigerian Governors’ forum of which the Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun also fully keyed into.
Dr. Coker while fielding questions from the press, stated that the goal of the project is to make sure that every resident in the state, know their numbers through proper screening, in her words “we are targeting 350,000 Ogun residents, especially the undeserved and vulnerable, hence the screening is totally free”.
The Commissioner further imploring the residents of the state to participate in the screening exercise, explained that the project is not just about screening the people but preventing avoidable death by linking newly detected cases to treatment, pointing out that it would also enhance data collection to inform health policies and planning.
The campaign which will commence on the 28th of October and runs through to the 3rd of November, is extended to the 236 wards in the 20 local governments of the state and would be available at all the Primary Health Care Centres, the Secondary and Tertiary health facilities across the state and also all religious worship centres, parks and markets throughout the state.
