Emir of Zuru seeks law reform to get permanent solution to farmers-herders crisis in Kebbi

Emir of Zuru, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II (rtd) has advocated for the law that would permanently resolved the crisis between Farmers and herders in Kebbi State.

He stated this while addressing members of the Kebbi State Law Reform Commission, led by their Chairman, Justice Samaila Haruna-Rasheed (rtd) in his palace, Zuru town.
The Emir, who expressed his concern over the continuous roaming of Almajiri children, Fulanis from one cities to another, stated that there should be law restricted them to their state of origin as well as compulsory law that would mandated them to be educated.

“We don’t care about how to get these Almajiri and Fulanis educated. We are just doing something else. Again, we have to provide lasting solution to the crisis between Farmers and herders in the state.
“There should be law that would provide a permanent solution to this lingering crisis.

“We have been seen these Almajiri children roaming the streets. Also, the Fulanis have continue to move from one place to another. We are been always in one problem to others because of these set of people”.
Emir Zuru who cited China and Saudi Arabia as good example of nations to be emulated in terms of adherence to strick laws,noted that they are progressing everyday among their contemporaries because of their sincerity.

He added that there are many circumstances whereby armed robbers and bandits whom supposed to be given life imprisonment, were given light sentences, returned to the society and continue torment innocent people.
Earlier, Secretary of the Zuru Emirate, Alhaji Muhammad Yahyah Marafa, highlighted the resolution of the Council on the law reform to have included issues on land disputes which has been bringing farmers and herders, cattle ranches belonging to state, federal and local governments which has disappeared in the emirate.

Marafa also said that the police were still collecting money for bail despite saying that bails are free, some people with minor offences are getting bigger jail terms while those who steals million get light sentence or no sentence at as long as they offer money to judges.

Earlier, in his remark, chairman of the Kebbi Law Reform Commission, Justice Samaila Haruna-Rasheed, explained to the Emir the urgent need to reviews some laws, which have been in existence since the Colonial era and not conform with the current situation in country.
He disclosed that the Commission had met with other Emir’s in the State to solicit for their support stressed that,the next action to be taken by the Commission is to compile their report,tender it before the Governor and thereafter, converges town hall meetings of stakeholders on Law Reform.
Alhaji Mohmmed Bawale Diri, Commissioner 1 of the Kebbi State Law Reform, commended the state governor for given the committee necessary support to excel in their assignment and lauded Emir of Zuru on his efforts to sustain peace in the Emirate.
