Wigwe varsity to induct 120 students at maiden matriculation Thursday
2 min readWigwe University is set to mark a monumental milestone with its first-ever matriculation ceremony on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
In a release by Dr . Sam Dede, Chairman, matriculation ceremony committee, Wigwe University, said the highly anticipated event will take place at the Herbert Wigwe Auditorium within the university’s campus in Isiokpo, Rivers State.
It would be recalled that during the official opening of the university in October 17, this year, the State Governor, Dr . Sam Dede, expressed the hope that the private institution will make a lot of impact in the state.

The governor further called on the management to ensure that the dream of the founder, late Harbert Wigwe does not die.
Fubara who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Ovy Chukwuma assured that the State Government will take every opportunity to invest in the institution and education in the state.
He announced that the State government has secured 100 slots for scholarship into in the university with indigenes of the State having 70 slots while 30 slots goes to none indigene of the State.

Meanwhile, in a statement made available to journalists in Port Harcourt, yesterday, Dr. Dede said “The ceremony will officially induct nearly 120 pioneering students into the university, symbolising the commencement of a new era for higher education in Africa.
“As the first cohort of students to matriculate, these individuals will play a pivotal role in embodying Wigwe University’s mission to train the next generation of fearless, innovative, and thoughtful leaders on the continent.”
He also disclosed that the event will feature a keynote address by the Emir of Kano, His Highness, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II.
“The event will be graced by a host of dignitaries, including the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who is the Special Guest of Honour. Other notable guests from across the state and beyond will join the occasion to celebrate this landmark achievement in higher education,” Dr. Dede added.
