Obasanjo to Tinubu: Don’t neglect #EndBadGovernance protesters’ demands

1 min read

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has, again, cautioned the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government about the potential repercussions if it failed to address the demands fuelling the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.

Obasanjo, on Friday, addressed six members of the National Assembly during a visit to his Abeokuta residence, in Ogun State.
The former President noted the need for the Federal Government to heed the concerns that sparked nationwide youth protests, calling their demands legitimate.
Obasanjo warned of potential severe consequences if the government failed to address these issues promptly.
The six legislators, who are co-sponsoring a bill proposing a single six-year presidential term with rotational Presidency between the North and South, were present at the event.

The former President urged the government to take the youth’s concerns seriously, stating that their frustration stems from poverty, unemployment, and a lack of listening.

He stressed that the country’s progress depended on a collective effort and a shift in mindset.
Obasanjo argued that the debate should not center on the length of presidential terms but rather on changing the mentality of those in power.

He, however, suggested that whether Nigeria adopts a single six-year term or maintains the current system, the effectiveness of governance hinges on trust in institutions and leadership.
