Several inmates escape as flood submerged Maiduguri

An unconfirmed number of inmates have escaped from a local prison, in Maiduguri, after a devastating flood submerged the facility.
The rising waters damaged the prison, breaching security barriers and compromising structural integrity, which facilitated the escape of an number of inmates.

Many of those who escaped were deemed highly dangerous and potentially armed, increasing the risk to public safety in a region already troubled by insurgency.

Authorities had launched a manhunt, deploying additional resources to recapture the fugitives and address the growing threat.
